The movie comic lovers have been waiting for, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is opening up in theaters this Friday, and let’s face it, it looks epically awesomesauce. To celebrate the premier — something we’ve been looking forward to since the trailers hit the interwebs — we’ve collected some equally awesome fanart for the comic series from deviantART.

What’s more awesome than helping animals with art? Nothing! Well, okay. Maybe world peace or an infinite supply of clean energy. But other than those things, this is definitely the most awesome!
I’ve been collaborating with the I Love Rescue Animals Blog on a project called Shelter Sketches. We feature one pet in need of a home each week. Our goal is to help that animal find a forever home, as well as raise awareness about homeless animals in need.
Here are some of the furballs who have been featured (the first three are by me):
On a hunt for Art Deco inspired artwork on dA, I stumbled across artist rodolforever and was so captivated by his incredibly designed Art Deco posters, that this post transformed into a featured artist highlight. rodolforever is a graphic designer and illustrator from Mexico City, with a clear passion for comics and movies. His highly stylistic versions of conceptual posters are prime examples of using Art Deco in modern settings. Here are several excellent examples from his dA gallery; and definitely check out his other work on his profile — you will not be disappointed.
Steampunk: it’s what happened when Goth Kids grew up, discovered the color brown, and married a steam ship from the Victorian Era — and then it turned into awesome. Mixing science fiction and history, the people who create the costume gear for this rapidly growing costume play are in an entirely different league from your average con-goer. The craftsmanship behind each piece of hand-worked leather and metal easily stands out above a commercial built product. Since there are too many spectacular accessories to show at once, today we’re displaying 10 Incredible Pieces of Steampunk Gear.
Origami, the Japanese traditional art of paper folding, has been around for centuries. Since the ’90’s, the modernized version has exponentially taken off in popularity, and designs have been getting more complicated and intricate since then. This week’s dA Spotlight puts this highly creative — yet constructively restrictive — art form into focus, showcasing fantasy themed origami pieces from the nerdy to the extreme.
